Born in a converted rocking-horse factory in Durham in 2011, grown into a control room, four rehearsal rooms and a mastering house. We have recorded punk and orchestras, hip hop and choirs, demos and albums headed straight for the pressing plant. Turn up, plug in, make the record.

The engineer
Neil Combstock, producer and mastering engineer, one half of Ninja Tune’s Zero dB. Twenty years across London studios, Tokyo clubs and vinyl mastering houses. Your record in the hands of someone who has made plenty of his own.
The studio
Richard Combstock built Rocking Horse from a derelict building in 2011 and runs it still. Over 300 bands, drumming classes, a proper working room and a County Durham institution.
“I’ve been recorded by Martin Rushent and Vic Maile. All great. But Neil is one hundred percent up there with those guys. The guy’s a genius.”
Arthur Billingsly999 · The Lurkers“He understands recording, engineering and production better than anyone I’ve worked with. Eleven albums together, and counting.”
Tom RowanSinger-songwriter“An absolutely magical ability to pull out great sounding results, every time. Whether modern jazz or floor-filling pop, he made it sound incredible.”
Zach FoxDurham University Big BandA dilapidated old rocking-horse factory, remodelled by hand into two rooms, then five, plus a studio. The heart of the North East scene.
The Durham building was marked for demolition. A year-long fight followed, with the council calling it an irreplaceable cultural asset. It still fell.
Bigger rooms, more space, the same friendly atmosphere. One minute off the A1, and rapidly becoming a cultural hub for County Durham.
