Discobole Orchestra invite Christine Salem - Kafe Grye LPDiscobole Orchestra invite Christine Salem

This 2024 album is a fiery meeting between the iconic "queen of Maloya," Christine Salem, and the Discobole Orchestra, a 16-piece jazz collective led by Théo Girard and Stéphane Hoareau (of Trans Kabar).

"Kafe Grye" (Grilled Coffee) is a groundbreaking fusion, plumbing the depths of Maloya-blues and setting it ablaze with the improvisational power of a full-scale jazz orchestra. The music is a hot, humanistic, and trance-like frenzy, where the traditional, earthy pulse of Salem's kayamb and vocals are propelled by a massive, dynamic horn section. This is a must-have for fans of both spiritual Maloya and adventurous, border-pushing jazz.
